Quick answer

We translate Hebrew documents into English for USCIS, UKVI, IRCC, universities and courts. Israeli civil records, religious documents and diplomas each have their own conventions, and our Hebrew translators handle the script, the missing vowels and the Hebrew calendar correctly.

  • Population Registry extracts, birth and marriage certificates, Teudat Zehut appendices
  • Ketubot (often in Aramaic) and rabbinical court divorce documents
  • Israel is a Hague Apostille member, so most originals are apostilled before translation

What Makes Hebrew Documents Different

  • Hebrew is written right to left, usually without vowel marks. The same letters can spell different names, so we match your passport spelling when you send it, and otherwise use a standard transliteration and tell you which one we chose
  • Religious documents use Hebrew calendar dates, such as 5 Tishrei 5785. We give the date as written and add the Gregorian date in brackets
  • A Ketubah is usually written in Aramaic, not Hebrew. Our translators handle the standard Aramaic text as well as any Hebrew additions
  • Hebrew numerals written with letters, used on some religious and older documents, are converted accurately

Apostilles on Israeli Documents

Israel is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. When the receiving authority asks for an apostille, it goes on the original Israeli document, issued in Israel. Send us the document with its apostille page and we translate both together. USCIS does not usually ask for an apostille on civil documents. See our apostille translation page for when one is needed.

We also translate from English into Hebrew for business, personal and official use. If an Israeli office will receive the document, check whether it requires a translation certified by an Israeli notary before you order.

Hebrew Names in English: Common Spellings

Hebrew letters can be written several ways in English, so the same name often appears with different spellings across documents.

Hebrew soundCommon English spellingsExample name
ח (het)Ch, Kh or HChaim, Khaim, Haim
צ (tsadi)Tz, Ts or ZTzvi, Tsvi, Zvi
י at the startY or IYitzhak, Itzhak
