Spanish Birth Certificate Translation (Acta de Nacimiento)
Certified translation of Mexican and Latin American birth certificates from Spanish to English for USCIS, passports, schools and courts, with every marginal note, CURP and seal included. $22.99 per page, 24 hour delivery for up to 3 pages.
For USCIS and most US offices, a Spanish-language birth certificate needs a complete English translation with a signed certification. We translate actas de nacimiento from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Colombia and every other Spanish-speaking country, including the parts people often forget: marginal notes, seals and the back page.
- Mexican actas printed online or issued by the Registro Civil, including the CURP and electronic identifier
- Both surnames kept in order, accents preserved, passport spelling noted on request
- Need the reverse? We also translate US birth certificates from English to Spanish
What Is on a Mexican Acta de Nacimiento
Every field below is translated. Leaving one out can lead to questions about the translation.
| Field on the acta | What it is |
|---|---|
| CURP (Clave 脷nica de Registro de Poblaci贸n) | An 18-character personal ID code, copied exactly |
| Entidad, municipio, oficial铆a, libro, acta | Where and in which register book the birth was recorded |
| Fecha de registro | Registration date, which can be years after the birth date |
| Datos de los padres (and sometimes abuelos) | Parents' and sometimes grandparents' names and nationality |
| Anotaciones marginales | Marginal notes recording later changes, such as recognition of paternity or name corrections |
| Identificador electr贸nico / c贸digo de verificaci贸n | Validation code on actas printed online |
| Sellos y firmas | Seals and signatures of the registrar |
Older handwritten actas are read by translators experienced with Mexican civil registry handwriting. Illegible entries are marked [illegible], never guessed.
Birth Certificates From Other Spanish-Speaking Countries
| Country | Typical issuing office |
|---|---|
| Guatemala | RENAP (Registro Nacional de las Personas) |
| El Salvador | Registro del Estado Familiar of the municipality |
| Honduras | RNP (Registro Nacional de las Personas) |
| Colombia | Registradur铆a Nacional del Estado Civil, or a notary |
| Dominican Republic | Oficial铆a del Estado Civil (Junta Central Electoral) |
| Spain | Registro Civil |
Whatever the country, the price is the same $22.99 per page.
Names on Spanish Birth Certificates
- Spanish names usually carry two surnames, the father's (apellido paterno) and then the mother's (apellido materno). We keep both, in that order
- Accents and the letter 帽 are preserved exactly
- If your passport or green card drops the second surname or the accents, send it with your order and we note the passport spelling, so an officer can see both belong to you
What USCIS Expects From a Birth Certificate Translation
USCIS requires a full English translation of any foreign-language document (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)). The translator must also certify that the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate from Spanish into English. It does not require notarization. Every order includes that signed certification. For the full rules, see our guide to USCIS translation requirements and how to translate a birth certificate to English.
Translate a Birth Certificate From English to Spanish
We also translate US birth certificates into Spanish, for example to register a child's birth abroad or apply for another nationality. Some Mexican and Spanish offices only accept translations by their own authorized translator (perito traductor or traductor jurado), and the US document may need an apostille first. Check the office's instructions, then see our English to Spanish page.

How to Translate a Birth Certificate From Spanish to English
Get the right copy
Use a recent certified copy from the civil registry. Mexican actas can be printed online, and other countries issue copies at the registry office.
Scan every page
Include the back and any apostille or annotation pages. A clear phone photo is enough.
Note your spelling
Type every name exactly as it appears in your passport, so we can note any difference.
Order the certified translation
We translate every field, stamp and seal and sign a Certificate of Accuracy, for $22.99 per page.
Late Registrations, Corrections and Recognitions
Some actas record events that change how the certificate reads. A registro extemporáneo is a late registration, made years after the birth, and the acta shows both dates. A rectificación is a correction of an error, such as a misspelled name, and a reconocimiento records that a parent formally recognized the child after registration.
Each of these appears as a note on the acta or as a separate entry, and we translate them in full with their dates and registry references. If your acta shows a late registration, the receiving office may also ask for other evidence of birth, which is its decision.
