What Is a Pakistani Family Registration Certificate?
A Pakistani Family Registration Certificate, commonly known as an FRC, is an official document issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). It records the details of an entire registered family unit. For every member listed under the same household, it gives the name, date of birth, CNIC number, and relationship. The FRC is written largely in Urdu and requires a certified English translation before it can be submitted to any overseas immigration authority.
The FRC is a common supporting document for British Pakistanis applying for a UK spouse visa. It is also common for Pakistanis in the United States filing an I-130 petition with USCIS. Pakistani communities in Canada applying through IRCC use it too. Immigration authorities use it to verify the family relationship between the sponsor and the applicant. They also check names and dates of birth against the other documents you submit.
The FRC is distinct from a birth certificate or a Nikah Nama. It records the family as a registered unit rather than an individual. This makes it useful for proving that two people belong to the same household. It can also prove that a child belongs to a specific set of parents. Both the computerized NADRA FRC and older Union Council family records are translated at the same flat rate per page.
Types of Pakistani Family Registration Documents We Translate
Pakistani family registration documents come in several formats depending on the year of issue and the registering authority. We translate all of the following with the same certified accuracy and flat rate per page.
NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC)
The computerized format issued through NADRA's national database. It lists every registered family member with their full name, CNIC number, date of birth, and relationship to the head of household. It also carries the official NADRA barcode and stamp. The most commonly required format for UK, US, and Canadian immigration applications.
NADRA Family Certificate (FC)
A shorter NADRA-issued document confirming the family unit registration, sometimes requested as an alternative to or alongside the full FRC. Contains household registration details and is issued with official NADRA security features. We translate both the full FRC and the shorter FC at the same rate.
Union Council Family Registration Records
Older family registration records issued by local Union Council offices before NADRA computerization. These may be handwritten or typed in Urdu on government letterhead with the registrar's signature and official seal. Send these records with a certified English translation, and check the authority's checklist to confirm it takes this record type.
MOFA-Attested FRC Documents
Family Registration Certificates already attested by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for international use. We translate MOFA-attested FRCs and clearly note all attestation stamps and endorsements in the English translation so the officer can see every endorsement.
High Commission Verified FRCs
FRCs that have been verified or endorsed by a Pakistani High Commission or Embassy abroad. Where an FRC carries additional consular markings, we note all such endorsements in the certified English translation.
Who Needs a Certified FRC Translation?
A certified translation of the Pakistani Family Registration Certificate is required across a wide range of immigration, legal, and administrative situations. The table below covers the most common use cases for Pakistanis in the UK, US, and Canada.
| Country / Authority | Application Type | Why Translation Is Required |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom (UKVI) | Spouse Visa, Family Visa, Child Visa, ILR | UK Visas and Immigration may ask for the FRC as supporting evidence in spouse and family visa applications. It shows that the sponsor and applicant are related, and that names and dates of birth match the other documents. An FRC in Urdu must come with an English translation that meets paragraph 39B of the Immigration Rules. |
| United States (USCIS) | I-130, I-485, K-1 Fiancé Visa, DS-260 | USCIS may request a Pakistani FRC as evidence of a family relationship. This applies to petitions for immediate relatives, adjustment of status applications, and fiancé visa applications. USCIS requires a full certified English translation of every document not originally in English. |
| Canada (IRCC) | Spousal Sponsorship, Dependent Child, Permanent Residency | Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada may request a Family Registration Certificate to confirm family relationships in spousal sponsorship and dependent child applications. IRCC requires certified English or French translations of all supporting documents not in those languages. |
| Pakistan Embassy / High Commission | Child Travel Documents, Passport Applications | Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad may request a certified FRC translation for overseas Pakistani passport applications. They may also ask for it for children's travel documents, particularly when the child's relationship to the parents must be formally established. |
| Courts and Legal Proceedings | Inheritance, Custody, Adoption, Name Change | Courts in the UK, US, and Canada require certified translations of all foreign-language documents submitted as evidence. An FRC may be required in inheritance disputes, child custody cases, and adoption proceedings where family relationships must be established. |
| Schools and Universities | Enrollment, Dependent Student Applications | Educational institutions in the UK, US, and Canada may request a certified FRC translation. It shows that a student applying as a dependent is a genuine member of the sponsoring family. |
Certified FRC Translation Requirements: UK, US, and Canada
Each immigration authority has specific requirements for how a certified translation of the Family Registration Certificate must be prepared and presented. Each translation carries a signed Certificate of Accuracy, and the rules below show what each of the three systems adds.
United Kingdom: UKVI and Home Office Requirements
UK Visas and Immigration requires every foreign-language document in a visa application to come with an English translation. Under paragraph 39B of the Immigration Rules, the translation must confirm it is accurate and be dated. It must also give the translator's full name, signature, and contact details. For leave to remain and settlement applications, a qualified translator must also certify it and state their credentials.
United States: USCIS Translation Requirements
USCIS requires a certified English translation of every document not originally written in English. Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), the translator must certify in writing that the translation is complete and accurate. They must also certify that they are competent to translate from Urdu to English. Current USCIS form instructions also ask for the translator's signature, printed name, date, and contact information. This applies to all USCIS petitions and applications where an FRC is submitted as supporting evidence.
Canada: IRCC Translation Requirements
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires English or French translations of all supporting documents not in those languages. Under the IRCC translation rules, the translation must come from a certified translator, or be accompanied by an affidavit sworn before an authorized person. The applicant and family members cannot translate. This applies to all IRCC applications where the FRC is submitted to confirm family relationships.
How We Keep Your FRC Translation Accurate
The NADRA Family Registration Certificate is a tabular document listing every registered family member with their name, CNIC number, date of birth, and relationship. A single mistranslated name or incorrect relationship term can cause an immigration officer to question the entire application. Here is how we ensure accuracy.
Accurate Translation of Every Row and Column We translate each family member's full name, CNIC number, date of birth, and relationship to the head of household exactly as it appears. No entries are omitted or summarized.
Cross‑Referencing with Your Other Documents Immigration officers compare names and dates on the FRC with your Nikah Nama and birth certificates. We check for consistency across your document set so everything aligns.
Both NADRA FRC and Older Union Council Family Records We translate the computerized NADRA FRC as well as older family registration records issued by Union Councils. All formats are handled at the same flat rate.
Correct Translation of Urdu Relationship Terms Terms like "Walid" (father), "Walida" (mother), "Bhatija" (nephew), and others are translated accurately so there is no confusion about family relationships.
$22.99 Flat Rate Per Page: Same Price Regardless of Family Size Whether your FRC lists 3 family members or 12, the price remains $22.99 per page. No extra charges for additional rows or complex layouts.
100% Acceptance Guarantee If the authority your FRC translation was prepared for rejects it because of a translation problem, we refund your order in full. Just send us the rejection notice. Free revisions are included for 14 days after delivery; after that, a small revision fee applies.

Other Pakistani Documents You May Need Translated
The FRC is one of several documents that UKVI, USCIS, and IRCC request as a set. Immigration authorities use it alongside your marriage certificate and birth certificates to cross-reference names, dates of birth, and family relationships across the whole application. Looking for Urdu-language translation beyond Pakistani documents specifically? See our Urdu to English certified translation page.
For a UK spouse visa, the FRC is usually needed with two other documents. The first is a certified Nikah Nama translation to verify the marriage. The second is a certified birth certificate translation for both applicants. If either party was previously married in Pakistan, a certified divorce certificate translation is required as well. It shows the prior marriage was legally dissolved.
All documents can be uploaded together in a single order. Our Pakistani document translation services page gives a complete overview of NADRA, Union Council, and Family Court documents. It covers every one that UK, US, and Canadian immigration applications commonly require. You can also browse our full list of documents we translate. Each page is priced at the flat rate of $22.99 with no minimum order.
Two guides answer the questions we hear most: birth certificate translation requirements by country, and what USCIS requires from a certified translation.
